A Brilliant Turnout in the Sunshine

Darchem’s recent Community Fun Day was a genuine success, drawing a fantastic turnout from across the business and the wider local community. With clear skies and warm sunshine throughout the day, the site steadily filled as colleagues, families, and neighbours arrived and joined the celebrations.

From early on, there was a great atmosphere. Children moved between activities, families caught up over food, and it was clear how much everyone valued the opportunity to spend time together outside of the usual working environment. Events like this are about more than entertainment. They strengthen connections across our teams and reinforce our commitment to the community around us.

“Our family fun day was a great occasion for everyone at Darchem and our neighbours from the local area. Families enjoyed the excellent food and especially the ice cream van which was very busy!”

Animal Encounters, an Unexpected Star, and Superheroes

One of the highlights of the day was the animal encounters, which quickly became a favourite with younger visitors. From giant snails to snakes, there were plenty of opportunities to get up close, ask questions, and, for the brave, hold some of the animals. The experience created memorable moments and more than a few surprised reactions.

The undisputed star of the show, however, was Toffee. She stole the spotlight entirely and was easily the most photographed guest of the day. Children and adults alike were drawn to her, and she seemed more than happy with the attention. It is safe to say she left with a strong fan base.

Our dress up characters added even more energy to the day, spending their time posing for photos and entertaining the crowd. Spider Man was a clear favourite. He was rarely in one place for long, moving between groups, performing tricks, and even surprising onlookers with a headstand on a table that drew a loud cheer. The enthusiasm he brought to the day was infectious, and the children could not get enough.

Food Stalls in Full Swing

The food stalls were busy from start to finish. With the sun out in full force, the ice cream van quickly became one of the most popular stops, helping everyone stay cool. Fresh pizzas proved a consistent hit, burgers were in constant demand, and the loaded fries disappeared as quickly as they were served.

No one left hungry, and the steady queues throughout the afternoon were a clear sign of success!

Supporting Important Causes

We were also proud to welcome two fantastic charities to the event. Butterwick Hospice ran a raffle with a range of excellent prizes, raising funds to support their important work.

Man Health were also on site, speaking with visitors about the importance of men’s mental health and the support they provide. It was encouraging to see so many meaningful conversations taking place and genuine engagement from attendees.

Activities for All Ages

There was no shortage of activities throughout the day. Face painting proved as popular as ever, with a steady line of children waiting patiently to be transformed. The stocks and sponge throwing brought plenty of laughter, particularly when a few brave adults volunteered to take a turn.

The bouncy castles were in near constant use, and the football penalty shootout saw a mixture of impressive strikes and ambitious misses, both met with equal encouragement from the crowd.

Looking Forward to Next Year

Beyond the individual attractions, what stood out most was the sense of community. Colleagues from across different teams had the chance to spend time together in a relaxed setting. Families were able to see first-hand the environment and people behind the business. Residents joined us and helped make the day feel open and inclusive.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, organised, or supported the event. The effort behind the scenes ensured the day ran smoothly and safely, allowing everyone to focus on enjoying themselves.
