Supporting Healthier and Greener Travel

Darchem Engineering is pleased to announce the launch of its new Cycle to Work scheme, giving employees another way to travel to and from work while supporting healthier lifestyles and helping reduce carbon emissions.

The scheme, provided through Cycle Solutions, allows employees to choose a bike through an online portal and spread the cost over 12 months through salary sacrifice. Employees can also visit trusted local retail partners to view bikes before placing an order, making the process simple and accessible for everyone.

Following a review of several providers, Darchem selected Cycle Solutions due to its wide range of bikes, particularly for keen cyclists, as well as the simplicity of the platform and administration process.

Building on Employee Feedback

The introduction of the scheme follows the successful launch of Darchem’s salary sacrifice electric car scheme last year, which generated strong interest across the workforce.

Speaking about the launch, Darchem Engineering’s Head of HR said:

“We introduced a salary sacrifice electric car scheme last year, and it has been a huge success. Following its launch, our workforce asked whether we would consider introducing a Cycle to Work scheme too. After reviewing the opportunity, there was no reason not to proceed, and the level of interest has surpassed all expectations.”

A Strong Start to the Scheme

The response from employees has already been extremely positive, with more than 40 bikes ordered within the first month of launch alone.

These orders have already helped offset an estimated 2,082kg of carbon emissions, which is the equivalent of planting 99 mature trees, while also delivering significant financial savings for employees.

Benefits Beyond the Commute

Alongside the environmental benefits, cycling can also have a positive impact on both physical and mental wellbeing. Studies have shown that active commuting can help improve overall health, while a Cycling UK survey found that 91% of participants considered cycling important for their mental health.

Employees choosing to cycle can also benefit from reduced travel costs, avoiding traffic, and lowering their personal carbon footprint.
