Our Social Responsibility Strategy
At Darchem, we are committed to making a positive difference for our people, our communities and our planet. Our ESG strategy focuses on meaningful action and long-term impact across every part of our business.
Apprenticeship Schemes
Investing in the next generation is central to our success and we’ve had apprentices for over 50 years. In recognition of our commitment to our longevity in providing highly skilled training we have recently been awarded the100 Club Award with Hartlepool College. Our apprenticeship programmes provide valuable industry experience and professional development opportunities, paving a clear pathway into successful careers.
Environmental Initiatives
We continue to reduce our environmental impact through a range of initiatives. This includes encouraging the use of cleaner transport, offering an electric car scheme with chargers available for all employees, installing solar panels, and continually reducing our energy usage across our operations. We are also reviewing processes and practices to identify further opportunities to improve our environmental performance.
Health and Wellbeing
The wellbeing of our people is a key priority, and we are committed to creating a safe, healthy, and supportive working environment. We recently introduced Health MOTs for all employees and offer flexible working arrangements, access to an employee wellbeing app, and trained Mental Health First Aiders on site. We also support initiatives such as Andy’s Man Club, and as part of our community engagement, we take part in activities like five-a-side football to raise funds for Butterwick Hospice.
Education & Skills Development
We are committed to lifelong learning, both within Darchem and across our community. By supporting education in local schools and colleges, we help to inspire the next generation of engineers and skilled professionals. Our STEM Ambassadors regularly visit schools and welcome students, local Guide groups and other community organisations to our site to showcase the exciting careers available in engineering. Through these activities, we aim to bring new talent into the industry and promote diversity and inclusion in everything we do.
Community Partnerships
We believe in the importance of giving back to the communities where we live and work. Our partnerships and volunteering initiatives are designed to support local causes and create a positive impact beyond our business. A recent example of this commitment is our partnership with Butterwick Hospice, which enables us to support the invaluable care they provide to individuals and families in our community.

STEM Engagement
Our employees regularly visit schools and colleges to share insights into what we do at Darchem and to encourage students to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This includes ongoing engagement led by our HR Business Partner Malcolm, who helps to promote the opportunities available within our industry.
Butterwick Hospice Partnership
We are honoured to support Butterwick Hospice, helping them to continue their vital work providing care and comfort to individuals and families in our community.
